Charlemont-based Cavalier Cottage B&B openedits doors just a year ago and has already received a prestigious award from one of the foremost online booking agencies. FlipKey, a division of Trip Advisor, has informed owner Pat Butterfield that “based on exceptional guest reviews and an impressive listing, you are being recognized with a “Top Vacation Rental” award on FlipKey. This honor was awarded to a very select group of vacation rental owners based on reviews from past guests.”
Pat opened the Cavalier Cottage in January of 2012 as a “very pet friendly B&B.” The idea was a natural for animal-loving Pat, whose own little menagerie includes the Cavalier King Charles spaniels who gave their name to the self-sufficient attached cottage with full kitchen and bath. In its first year of operation, bookings at Cavalier Cottage surpassed Pat’s expectations. She has already hosted many, many “wonderful two-legged and four-legged guests” from all over the United States and several other countries. Besides offering special “extras” like dog walks and pet-sitting for visitors, Pat greets her guests each morning with fresh-baked scones. She notes that many of the dogs and cats who come to the cottage are “rescues” and that their human companions tend to be a “special breed” of compassionate and interesting people. She also recognizes that the area itself is a big draw: “People come for the natural beauty, the many activities and points of interest, and the peace and quiet of the country.”
